It was a Sunday morning in September when it hit me that I had to figure out what I was doing for my "strange" place for my Twitterive assignment. I had been bothering my roommates all weekend for them to help me come up with something to do. My one roommate had friends stay over the night before and they had planned on going apple picking the next morning. Initially I did not want to go at all, but sitting in my bed brainstorming what to do, I figured it would be a great opportunity to do something I have never done before and get this assignment done.
As I was getting ready to go, I realized that I did not have the right shoes for apple picking. Luckily, two of my roommates have the same show size as me. I went into Lauren's room and asked her if she had any shoes I could borrow, but she did not have any that were appropriate for apple picking. Then I went downstairs to Jaimie's room and luckily she had an extra pair of sneakers. I put one of them on my feet and they felt a little snug. I tried to loosen the laces, but it wasn't really working. I just had to suck it up because it was all I had. Finally, we were all done getting ready and headed out the door. Obviously, we had to stop for some Dunkin Donuts coffee before going to the apple picking farm. Lauren and I went into Dunkin while Jaimie waited in the car and was getting directions to the place. We get back to the car and Jaimie tells us that the place we were supposed to go to was 50 minutes away(This was the start of things going wrong). Now as much as I wanted to go apple picking, I was not going to drive almost an hour away to do it. We googled apple picking places in the area and found places, but most of them were closed on Sundays. After a few minutes, we found a place that was not too far and was open. So we drove to the place, laughing and singing along to the radio the whole way there. We pulled up to the place and I got out of the car to ask the man at the register what we needed to do for apple picking. He told me that apple picking didn't start until next week. At this point, I was like...... Once again, we went onto Google to see of there was any other place we could go to. We found another place that was only 10 minutes away from where we were. This time, we were a little smarter and called ahead to make sure they were open and (thankfully) they were! A big smile came on my face and we drove there. We finally pulled up to Hill Creek Farms and I still had the huge smile on my face. I pulled into a parking spot on the grass. Looking right in front of me through the windshield were the endless rows of apple trees. I stepped out of the car to the shop and walked over to the man distributing the baskets. He handed one to each of us and we were off. We were walking up and down the rows of apples. I was in search for the perfect apple. Each tree was filled with bunches and bunches of apples. I was going from tree to tree, inspecting each apple. I was finding some good ones, but not the perfect one. But i was not giving up. Walking down the rows and looking around was such a nice feeling. I was never really an outdoorsy person, but now I am definitely learning to appreciate nature and it's beauty. . I look over at my roommates, who were also having an amazing time. They were so intently looking for apples. I took a little break to just look around and appreciate this place. After a while of focusing on picking, we were all getting a little bored and decided to search around the place to find something interesting. Not much was going on. We walked to the outer rows of the trees and saw this huge house. It was beautiful. I was imagining living in that house and being able to have an amazing view of the apple trees everyday. As the day went on, it started to get a little hot. Jaimie decided to take off her jacket and tie it around her waist. Although this may have been cool in the 90's, it is not something that should be done today. We started to make fun of her until she decided to just put the jacket back on and deal with the heat. Once we finished picking all of the apple we wanted, we decided to check out the shop. It was amazing. It was filled with all of these fresh produce. We noticed that you could get free samples of fresh cider, so we ran right over to get some. It was such a refreshing treat, especially because of how how it was outside. I filled up my sample cup 3 times before moving on. We got on the check out line and I saw bags filled with delicious looking apple cider donuts. I was questioning to get them or not, but I figured why not! I also had to buy a bottle of the apple cider because it was just that good. I stood on the line waiting to get rung up. It was finally my turn. The lady weighed my apples and rung up my cider and donuts. To my surprise, the total only came to about $7.00. What a good deal! After we checked out, we went to the back of the shop, where there was a play place for kids. Being the child that I am, I ran over and started playing. Jaimie took pictures of me next to the the cardboard cutouts of vegetables and animals. We all were laughing together, realizing that when it comes down to it, we have the maturity of a 5 year old.
Unfortunately, it was getting later in the day, so we had to head home. I drove off on the route back to Rowan. While in the car, we were chatting it up, talking about how much fun it was and how we needed to come back soon. I was very satisfied with all of the goodies I got. In my basked were a whole bunch of apples, apple cider, and apple cider donuts, which smelt amazing. I couldn't even wait to get home. I ripped open the bag of donuts and dug right in. I took a huge bite of the donut and my reaction was basically like this... It was probably one of the greatest thing I have ever eaten. I literally stuffed the rest of it on my mouth.
Later that night, I realized that a few of my tweets did not show up. I was bummed because I had pictures of my face in the cardboard cutouts and such, but at least I still had them on my phone. Looking through my pictures got me excited and really wanted to go apple picking very soon. |
